The Film Business Bootcamp
Completed Oct 2013
The Film Business Bootcamp is an immersive training programme that gives participants the opportunity to be mentored by industry practitioners with real world experience of developing, financing and distributing independent feature films.
Participants receive training, support and advocacy from mentors whilst learning the practical skills necessary to get their films made.
The Film Business Bootcamp is not about how to make a film ...
it’s about HOW TO GET YOUR FILM MADE!
Bootcampers learn the business of film whilst developing their projects, developing their network and getting the opportunity to pitch and promote themselves and their films to the ‘gatekeepers’ of the industry.
The course takes place over six months and culminates in a final session pitching to the industry - representatives from national and regional funds, distributors, sales agents, equity financiers and executive producers.
Topics covered include:
- Developing an idea for the screen
- The art of the pitch
- Sources of finance
- Development strategy and business planning
- Casting - working with casting directors, agents and attaching a cast
- The importance of presentation materials
- Sales and distribution
- Finance plans
- Equity investment
- Intellectual property and contracts
- Production incentives and tax credits
- The writer, producer, director relationship
- Closing the deal
